Background

​

I have 30 years’ experience as a senior nurse within emergency medicine. A significant number of those years employed as a Resuscitation Nurse Specialist and Trauma Lead in a large district general hospital. This role involved clinically working in the A&E resuscitation room leading cardiac arrests in both adults and children with hands on clinical and educational duties. I continue to work as a specialist A&E nurse within the NHS.

I have experience of both working abroad both in Europe and the USA. In the USA, I had the opportunity of observing and working in a Level 1 Trauma Centre in Pittsburgh and also with STat Medivac performing aeromedical transfers.

My training experience has involved that of commercial airline cabin crew and the crews of private yachts in first responder and resuscitation skills. I have also taken part in the education, training and assessment of paramedics and fire service personnel in emergency care and resuscitation.

I have been involved in the training of members of the armed forces in Paediatric Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support prior to their overseas deployment.

Educationally I have experience as a visiting Lecturer at the Manchester Metropolitan School of Nursing, Salford University School of Nursing, and Examiner and Lecturer at Edge Hill Department of Paramedical Science and Pre-hospital care.

I instruct regularly throughout the year on nationally recognised adult and paediatric advanced life support courses both in the UK and in Europe.
